  1. "I am searching for more info on a Martha Halle (maiden name Bryant)" writes Marianne Wildcat of Lawrence, KS USA. "She is buried in Nailsea in the Christ Church Cemetery with her daughter Melina. Martha was born to John and Martha Bryant in Nailsea about 1837. She shows up as 4 yrs. old on the 1841 census for Nailsea with her parents and siblings. On the same grave marker as Melina and Martha in Christ Church cem. on the reverse side is an inscription for Martha's sister Lavinia Bryant. I don't know when Martha got married or which Halle she married. I've not been able to find any records and don't have the spouses first name. I know Martha is listed in the 1881 census for residents of Bedminster Union Workhouse, Long Ashton as widowed, nurse. I am sure this is my Martha (Bryant) Halle as earlier Martha was supposed to have worked as a nurse at Leeds General Hospital. I believe that Martha and her husband had 2 other children also - Louis and Louise Halle. I have seen my family on y6our site. You have included (1881 census) that has Martha's brother Thomas Bryant listed along with his family. Martha's mother Martha is living with him as is Melina Halle, his niece. I am trying to find out which Halle Martha married so that I might be able to expand my research via internet." [mwildcat$sunflower.com]

  17. NEW

I have just tried to reach the Nancy Hale on page 5 who asks about Lower Gornal, Dudley, Worcs. Unfortunately her Email no longer works but this is my reply to her.
I do not know if this helps. My grandfather was James Henry Hale of Lower Gornal, Dudley. James's father was the manager for Himley Hall colliery and James (Pop) married Nan(cy), they had three children. Vera (died in the 1970s) William and Leonard (my father born 13th Feb 1914, he shared his birthday with his father, James)
James was a Master Builder and worked for various very large estate offices as a building manager-the Portman Estate in London. Before retiring to Bournemouth in the 1950s.
My father, Leonard James, severed in the RA in WW2 and settled in Bournemouth. I am the youngest of two sons, Martin Andrew 1943 and Timothy Pugh 1952.
My brother has returned to area and lives just inside the Christchurch boundary, whilst I have moved to Sherborne in West Dorset.
We have two sons, Andrew James 1976 and Matthew Paul 1978, both serve in the Royal Navy like James and William and myself-no grandchildren.
I once returned to Gornal with dad, only to find that the house had been demolished (the washouse survives) and I had a drink in the Yew Tree (is that correct?)
